Goat man, humility and the beginnings of WW3... 1st Kedron primary!

I've just had an incredible week leading on my first camp Kedron camp! So good to be back on a kids camp with awesome leaders and awesome kids!!!
This time I had a group of 8 girls to look after for the week. I had two fun, loving independent year 5s, 4 year 4s, 2 of were chilled and loving and I don't think they cried the entire week!! and then two who were friends and then were in tears because they had fallen out and this cycle repeated itself until one of them went home early due to a skiing trip...
Then I had 2 quite fragile year 3s for whom it was there first week away and who both (despite a few tears=( ) managed to stay for the entire camp and they went home happy.

Every camp I come back with many stories. There are some that make me smile, some that make me cry and others that make me want to tear my hair out in utter frustration. The last one usually happens on the last night of camp when all my girls are tired and cranky (And usually I am too!!) but this camp it was different and here is the story=)

There is a myth at camp made up to get campers to go to bed. It involves a man who is half goat and half man who lives in the bushes at camp and who only takes campers who are outside their cabins when they are not supposed to be.

That evening we were playing wide games and one of them was spotlight and the news came to me that my girls were so scared of the mysterious goat man that they were in tears with one of the other leaders... So when it came time for the bonfire- I shoulder tapped one of the key leaders to ask if they could NOT tell the goatman story as my girls were really scared.

Then my girls, my little, dramatic girls, went up to the leader who tells this story so well and asked to hear the goatman story. So this leader thought that obviously these weren't the girls that were really scared of it (fair enough and completely logical!!) and told them the goatman story.

That night I had a group of very worked up girls who "weren't going to get any sleep because they were so scared of goatman"

I got another leader in to settle my girls cause I was tired and my voice was going and then got them quiet and went to bed. About 2 hours later I was woken up by one of my year fours who wanted to go to the toilet but was too scared to walk the length of the cabin by herself so I got up and went with her before turning over and going back to sleep. About half an hour later (having just gone to sleep) She woke me up again! shaking hard core (probably cold) she refused to wear more then a long shirt to bed and it was FREEZING!! She said she felt sick and that she couldn't sleep so I talked to her for a bit and then settled her back down. Then I went back to sleep for a blissful few hours. Then at 6.30 This same camper and another one this time (who had wet herself =( ) woke me up because they were too scared to go to the bathroom by themselves (together) So I got up again and then settled them back hoping for a last blissful hour. But then the whispers started and despite my efforts they were up and within half an hour the whole cabin was up and the nights events were being recounted with glee...

And a very tired leader rolled out of bed. The next day had begun.

In the breakfast line my lovely drama queens told this leader about the dramatic events of the night and the story teller said he was sorry. Then our day went on we went to olympic park and the aquatic center and had an awesome time. In the line for the slide he asked me if we were friends ( Yeah! =) I was just tired=) and then he gave me chocolate to say he was sorry!

While it may feel like this is just an insane story. I was actually blown away by the humility of this guy. He's popular on kids camps both with campers and the leaders and could have just found my eventful night funny. But the fact that he cared enough to check we were still cool actually meant HEAPS to me ae!!

Another thing at camp was the talent quest slowly began to initiate world war 3. Who was going to be in whose acts blah blah blah. But eventually we had in worked out! 5/8 girls (All of those who wanted to be in acts) were in acts with other people and they were happy!! Yaya!

To cut a very long story short! It has been a beautiful camp! Once again I have had some great times with my campers, telling them how cool Jesus is, getting my face drawn on and been absolutely blown away by how cool the leaders were! We even had some as young as 14 and they were so so so good!! What an awesome camp with awesome memories! Bring on the next one!=D

God is good! All the time and All the time God is good....
